According to reports, Samsung Electronics executives have decided to upgrade its Xi 'an NAND flash memory factory to 236-layer NAND process, and have begun large-scale expansion.

Sources said that Samsung has begun to purchase the latest semiconductor equipment, new equipment is expected to be delivered by the end of 2023, and in 2024 in Xi 'an plant to gradually introduce equipment that can produce the 8th generation of NAND, which is also regarded by the industry as a strategic step to overcome the weak global NAND demand caused by the decline in production capacity.

2. It is reported that TSMC will mass-produce 6nm chips at the second plant in Kumamoto, Japan

According to Japanese reports, TSMC plans to manufacture 6nm high-end semiconductors in Japan, which will be produced at the Kumamoto second plant under discussion, with a total investment of about 2 trillion yen (currently about 97.8 billion yuan). Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is considering providing up to 900 billion yen (about 44.01 billion yuan at present) of financial support.

The Japanese government will include semiconductor support measures, including TSMC's new plant, in its economic policy to be issued as soon as October. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry included a total of 3.355 trillion yen (about 164.06 billion yuan at present) in the supplementary budget for 2023, and will increase the "post-5G fund" and "cutting-edge semiconductor fund" to support semiconductors, and then negotiate with the Japanese Ministry of Finance to determine the final amount.
